An Update From The (Former) Vicar.

Dear Pirate Faithful.

I hear you. I’m getting your messages. I’m getting your emails. I’m getting your veiled hints…and even one person’s blatant threat LOL. I do hear you..I just don’t choose to respond.

People have commented that since “Venom Nation” ended on May 1, that they want me to do something else for Pirate. One person said my voice is sorely missed on Pirate. Another person said, and I mentioned a threat, that “if you don’t get your ass back on there and do something constructive I’m gonna come down there and beat your ass with your microphone”.

In the recent days, there’s been a few messages telling me that “opportunity is a mutherfucker especially when it’s missed” – implying that since Luke is moving studios, and off the air till AUgust 7, that I should just “take over” his spot and do something for those weeks.

Well, I appreciate it, I really do…but….thanks but no thanks. First, it’s not a “spot” that I can just “take over”. It’s Luke’s slot…people tune in to hear Luke, not me. COULD I do something during that time slot? Sure. Luke gave me full blessing to do whatever..but I don’t want to. I’m quite happy doing things once in a while, on special occasions, etc. It fits with my schedule…and I’m under no obligation to meet a deadline or schedule….(In Pirate’s defense, I was never under concrete deadlines when I ”was” doing shows…but now I don’t have to worry about disappointing people.

Just for the record…I don’t even have the ABILITY to put stuff together here at the house. The computer I ”was” using as a studio setup has long since been euthanized (if you heard some of my last shows, you know why). Shows now require that I go to a friend’s studio to record vocals, burn them to a CD, and bring them back to the house….then mix…and that loses the vibe of trying not to sound scripted. I did the Dio tribute because it needed to be done, and the concensus agreed I was the best person for the job. Let’s face it, I make depressing tributes sound good LOL. The Pirate 150, on July 4th…believe it or not, was a side project that had been sitting here DONE for months and months..it’s original intent was to be the six weeks I was off LAST summer…two hours at a time…over six weeks…but it never came to light… It was done. It was laid out, and ready to go, it really didn’t take anyhting more than vocals and mixing, and change the first song of every hour to something patriotic..and throw in some Mellencamp. Really, that’s all it was. A project I started a year ago, and just didn’t want to see go to waste. Believe me, I didn’t just get a sudden urge to sit down and assemble 12 hours worht of programming. Believe me..lol.

Look, nobody said that Pirate has heard the last of me. I just stopped doing shows full time. And that’s not going to change, at least in the forseeable future. I have too much on my plate in the “real world” to try and dedicate that much time to a show…and as I said, equipment-wise, I’m not set up for it anymore. I will tell you this..there are other projects, much akin to the Pirate 150, that are sitting here having never seen the light of day. I’ve got projects sitting here that are tributes to bands, artists, genres, etc..and I still have a lot of contacts in and about the music industry that I will forever be faithful to…if their music hits Pirate…I “will” be the one to bring it to you. I’m not going anywhere…I haven’t gone anywhere…I’m just taking a more “behind the scenes” roll here at “The Z”….and I’m happy with that. I’m sorry if that doesn’t make the rest of you happy.

I am getting your messages. They are most appreciated, even the one I could take as a threat (LOL)..but…as I said…I’m happy where I’m at….Thanks but No Thanks. Besides…Hairball John is back….and I’d hate to embarass him by going back on the air ;)

Later All..

Steve-O
